Late Summer Journal Entry
As we enter the season of late summer, we see around us the abundance of the harvest. The markets are full of stone fruits, tomatoes, eggplant, melon, and the many other fruits, vegetables, and herbs that make this season a time for eating fresh ingredients. This is also what we call a transition season: there are still very hot days, but some nights are cooling down a bit. We see leaves beginning to change color, and some are already falling. This means we are making the transition from the height of summer down into the quieter times of fall and winter. This is our last chance to be outside without a sweater, but we know that time is coming. This is also the season when there is a big shift from the fun of summer vacation back into school and a more serious time at work. Still, there is time for beach weekends and the beginning of fall festivals. With all of this activity comes a lot of managing schedules and planning. Sometimes this leads to overthinking and even worry. These are the gifts and the challenges of the late summer season. As we approach this season, it is good to remember to take a step back and meditate or journal to stop the overthinking. Often, if we can clear our minds of the details, we can find more ease.
